ART GALLERY
CEYSSON & BENETIERE GALLERY- GINZA - TOKYO
SOPHIE DRIES
The contemporary art gallery Ceysson & Bénétière, founded in 2006 and already established in Europe and New York, is opening its first Asian space in Tokyo’s prestigious Ginza district. Designed by interior architect Sophie Dries, the 325 square meters. venue departs from the traditional white cube to embrace a minimalist wabi-sabi spirit, rooted in Junichiro Tanizaki’s In Praise of Shadows.
The interior combines raw and natural materials—iroko wood flooring, a monumental corten steel archway, solid wood and metal furniture—with subtle references to both French and Japanese craftsmanship. Custom-made pieces, from the Croissant sofa to Songye tables, Météor rugs, Glow Chandeliers, and kintsugi-restored ceramics, create a refined and immersive setting.
Dries’ practice, centered on materiality, gesture, and detail, resonates with the precision and purity of Japanese artisanship. Through a dialogue between heritage and innovation, the gallery becomes a distinctive space for the discovery and appreciation of contemporary art.
