Presented during Salone del Mobile 2016 in Milan, Sophie Dries unveiled an early iteration of her Traces series, marking a foundational moment in her ongoing research into material contrasts.

The presentation featured handcrafted black and white stoneware vessels paired with raw brass elements, exploring the dialogue between scored, unglazed clay and polished metal. Taking inspiration from primitive pottery techniques as well as 1980s radical design, the objects play on the tension between rough, incised surfaces and clean geometric silhouettes.

Conceived for her debut presentation at the Milan fair, this showcase established Dries' signature approach to contemporary craftsmanship. The installation framed functional vessels as sculptural art objects, setting the tone for her future material explorations across ceramics, glass, and metal.
