SALONE DEL MOBILE - NILUFAR GALLERY since 2019

Over the years, designer Sophie Dries has developed a rich, ongoing collaboration with Milan’s prestigious Nilufar Gallery, bringing her distinctive exploration of raw materials and contemporary forms into the world of collectible design. Represented by gallery founder Nina Yashar across multiple editions of Salone del Mobile and dedicated exhibitions, Dries has continuously expanded her dialogue between ancestral craftsmanship and contemporary design within Nilufar’s iconic spaces.

Central to this enduring partnership is her bespoke collection of handblown glass works, titled Alchemia, created exclusively for Nilufar. Born from Dries’ long-standing fascination with geology and material metamorphosis, the project explores encasing raw minerals and mica directly into molten glass. This ongoing research creates an organic interplay between light, iridescent inclusions, and fluid, levitating forms.

Across lighting, vases, and floating mirrors, Dries’ work for Nilufar is organized around drop-like, amorphous structures generated through the unpredictable nature of traditional Murano glassblowing. Handcrafted one by one alongside master glassmakers in Italy, each piece remains entirely unique, conceived as sculptural objects designed to integrate collectible gallery glass into daily domestic life.

Throughout her successive presentations at Nilufar, Dries’ creations are staged in direct conversation with curated design masterworks. Her immersive displays explore opacity, reflection, and the dynamic tension between raw mineral weight and weightless glass, consistently blurring the boundaries between high luxury, material alchemy, and contemporary interior art.
